I have the Garmin e-trex, a cheaper version but very similar to the Colorado. It works great, very easy to set way-points and view tracks. It has built in generic road maps which has come in very handy.
The e-trex is a bit slow finding the sat's, and I have had some trouble with the accuracy level but overall it's a great unit. This summer before some of the boat and canoe trips I plan on loading the software from Garmin and giving it a good testing.
If your into the outdoors, these units are something you really want to look into!

I mentioned that in the article.

"You have to go into the settings and turn up the backlight."

I didn't say it couldn't be done, but it was bothersome to have to do it. It would seem to me like Garmin could ask it to remember its last known settings. Especially on a model that costs what this one does.

Thanks for your comments!

Once you turn on the unit and it gets past the splash screens, tap the power button and then scroll to increase the backlight.
