I bought a used Nuvi 350 for use on my
scooter which is Interstate capable. I've
installed a robust sound system and plan on
using the mp3 once in a while; but my main
sound comes from CDs as I can buy others on
the road should I get bored with what's on
hand.
Have tried satellite radio but found it fades when the sun is at a certain angle
in my city. (Pittsburgh)the fade happens
both morning and afternoon depending on
the angle of the sun. I cancelled the
subscription to it. Picked up a small
HD radio tuner but need to convert a small
surplus Ammo Box to make as a radio console. Projects like this are always
clogging my schedule.

Back to the Nuvi 350. I'd like to find
a way to add BLUETOOTH transmitter to it.
Or I might add a mixer to the sound system.
You can make the sound much better from the Nuvi 350 or any other mini-jack source
through the AA battery operated pre-amp from Kangaroo (also sold as a Radio Shack
model)$30-$35, which has three sets of outputs.
I have front, side and rear (sub-woofer with two voice coils) speakers and have
700 watts of amplifiers driving them.
You'd be amazed at the sound through the
speakers (designed for boat and motorcycle
use)it's much better than most custom setups for motorcycles and cars.

You might hear me BEFORE you see me on
the road....

Bob, i agree with most of that as well...i don't like that all the trip options are so hidden...sometimes i don't want the quickest (i usually prefer the shortest even if it takes longer by the map...because that's usually based on speed limits)..

i didn't have the thing in hand long enough to do any major updates to verify the time increases you're talking about

Review too superficial. To really understand these things you have to bet your life on it, and I did. I used the Nuvi 350 in Jan 08 to go from Toronto to Tampa, by myself, driving at night. I had never made the drive before and I had never used a GPS before. Not realizing that the NUVI defaulted to "quick" I gave it free reign and it found a route with 40 turnoffs. (Later, in Florida, regular travellors would stare at me open-mouthed, wondering why I did not simply stay on the interstate, which involved no turnoffs. Turns out that was an extra 100 miles of wasted travel, according to the NUVI.) During a nasty fog patch outside of Kentucky, I had almost no road visibility and confess to using the NUVI like airplane instrumentation, watching my progress on the screen only. It correctly found an exit for me even though the exit sign was covered in fog and even today remains a mystery. I agree with all the negatives you listed and add the following: speaker is junk. I added an external set meant for ipods and installed under the passenger floor area. Had to create a "dummy floor" to make room. Made a big difference. Each successive update has increased the satillite acquisition time, a fact you can verify on chat boards. And, a silly complaint, for the price I paid in 07, I could get two of them today on Ebay.
