I have two Sony Vaio Laptops and last week both the screens have just stopped working. One of them would come up in a red colour then just stop and the other just wont work. I have taken it to a service shop and have been told one needs a new screen, and the other needs a new mother board. both of these have been quoted at very high prices. Can you tell me if there is any chance that both have been hit by a virus of some sort affecting the screen, as both were on the same internet connection, or is it just fate they both stopped working at the same time. I am unable to view anything on them, and also one has just had a new hard drive installed with no viruses. Thank you for any help in advance. Jules |

This should first be asked in the more "appropriate" section first before assuming it's a virus (since it sounds more like a hardware problem).
Since you're here...try this. Use a regular monitor and plug the cable to the back of the laptop. See if that works...you might have to hit some keys on the keyboard to tell it to switch to a regular monitor. If it still doesn't show anything on the working monitor, then there's the problem...the LCD screen most likely needs to be replaced. I recommend asking others in the hardware forum just to make sure you tried everything already. |
