You are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it and unzip the program into it. Please place it in a permanent folder such as C:\Program Files\HJT\. It is very important you do this before anything else! Display Hidden Files. Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this. Remove Unwanted Programs. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down to and highlight each of the following programs and select uninstall/remove: AdTools HJT Fixes. I would say that could be an indication but not an indicator that is always true. Some infections cause slowdowns without a hacker present and conversely you could have a hacker present and not notice a slowdown. The following instructions should give us a better picture what is present that needs deleting. Please perform the following steps. If an item is missing move on to the next step. Delete Temporary Files. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program. Under Main choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Firefox browser Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. If you use Opera browser Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program. For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu. Scan with Ewido Security Suite Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner: www.ewido.net/en/download/ When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment. From the main ewido screen, click on UPDATE in the left menu, then click the Start update button. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful", click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread, along with a new HijackThis log. Remove Questionable Programs. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down to and highlight each of the following programs and select uninstall/remove: LimeWire <== File sharing is risky even on clean servers. This is an optional fix. Viewpoint Manager (Remove Only) Viewpoint Media Player HJT Fixes. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis. Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this. Delete Files. Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if they still exist: C:\Program Files\AdTools Service\ <==Delete Directory and all contents. adtoolsx.dll <==Use Start > Search to locate this file. ide21201.vxd <==Use Start > Search to locate this file. Exit Explorer. Reboot. Kaspersky Online Scanner Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes. The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files: Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT Now click on Scan Settings In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected: Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: Extended (if available otherwise Standard) Scan Options: Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases Click OK Now under select a target to scan: Select My Computer This program will start and scan your system. The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected. Now click on the Save as Text button: Save the file to your desktop. Copy and paste that information in your next post with another HJT log. Post Logs.
