Help with Graphics card and restarting.

OK.... So when ever I am playing a game.... Any game my computer freezes for 2-5 secs and also most of the times when im playing a game they computer feezes and then the screen turns off but my computer is still running...and there is nothing I can do about it apart from turning it off at the wall and back on again.... So can some one please help me out with this problem....Cheers

OS: Windows XP
Product: Acer
Processer: Pentium 4 2.80 GhZ
RAM: 512 mbs
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce 6600 256mb AGP-8X

Check this for short troubleshooting. In addition, when did the problem start? Does it only happen when playing games? You can try to update your drivers for the graphics adapter.

i just updated it and it doesn't crash anymore but the graphics are really really strewed... like random lines at places etc...

Right click the desktop, click properties, settings, is it set for 32 true bit colour
