about a month or two ago i updated my computer and it reset everything to factory settings and got rid off all of my shortcuts etc so i did a system restore... Tonite I tried to update windows again and this time all of my settings were intact but about 30 seconds or so after startup, the computer gave me a error (one of those "send report" or dont send ones...) No matter what i hit on that, anout 10 secconds later a box comes up in the middle of the screen that says windows will shut down in 60 (or so) seconds. It was due to some sort of system failure. I barley managed to get a system resore in before th ecomputer shut down and now im back where i was! I have no firewall and the problems keep piling up due to the fact that I cant update windows! If anyone knows what the [bleep] is wrong with my computer id appriciate the help. thanks in advance!

For now that sounds strange, a lot like a few viruses that mess with the lsass.exe proccess...

here is one tip for you.

Always look for viruses and spyware first. IF you get the 60 second shutdown in windows, its trying to protect itself because something is ending a critical process.

you can open the RUN box and type in "shutdown -a" this will cancel the 60 second shutdown, and allow you to scan for possible viruses/spyware...

The other things you mentioned dont sound so much like spyware or virus, but the 60 second shut down kinda points that way.
