Hi Everyone

I've got quite a problem here. When attempting to boot windows xp pro, it just runs chkdsk every time. It completes and says that there are no problems. However, after this report, the system hangs. When attempting to boot into safe mode, it goes along fine until the point where it asks whether or not you want to cancel loading of spst.dll. After this point, whether you cancel it or not, it displays a file called Mup.sys, and it doesn't go anywhere from there. I've left it sitting for upwards of 30 minutes, to no avail.

The only thing that I can remember that may have caused it was installing Daemon tools. However, I've used it with no problems on other computers.

Can anyone offer any suggestions/help?

Can you get into the Recovery Console on the XP disk? If so, a new copy of the file will be made and that should solve the problem.
If this doesn't solve it many people say the mup.sys error is resolved by pulling their mouse out then rebooting Windows, a bizarre remedy I know but some people swear by it. If that doesn't work google mup.sys, many other hardware forums have several other ways to fix this problem.

What do you have on hand to operate out of the floppie drive?

We all should have the MS provided free Startup Disks on hand...you'll need 6 floppies to make them. Download the prog from MS and make up the disks. Of course you will need to use a computer that works and has internet access. This should get you to a point where you can do more investigation.

Let us know what you can and cannot do after that...
