Hi

im at my mums for xmas and i got her some new ram for her laptop

she has a ei system 3001

it has windows xp home

it only had 256mb ram so i bought her a stick of 512mb

i was reading about on google and it said the setup of the laptop is

2 banks of 1

for the memory

i thought this meant there are 2 banks (slots) which you can put 1 stick of ram in each bank.

i opened the wee cover on the back of the laptop but theres only room for one stick?

i need help

do you think theres another slot somewhere else?

maybe inside?

thanks for any help you can give smile.gif

According to this website you have 2 slots for up to 1024Mb of memory.

http://www.aememory.co.uk/category/noteboo...ms30012070.html

Now i have seen a laptop that had one memory slot located on top of another. You have to lift one side of the memory to make it stand up to be able to get to the second memory slot.

Thanks for your reply smile.gif

Thats the website i got the info from.. thats what made me think i could use 2 sticks of ram.. but i have looked under the laptop and theres only room for one..

i also went to crucial.com and it says i only have one memory slot..

but when i do the crucial test it says Guaranteed compatible memory upgrades for your Elite Group (ECS) G320 Laptop/Notebook.. thought it was ei systems 3100?
heres the info it gave me

# Maximum Memory Capacity: 1024MB
# Currently Installed Memory: 1024 MB ...this is wrong as i only have 512mb installed memory
# Available Memory Slots: -1
# Number of Banks: 1
# Dual Channel Support: No
# CPU Manufacturer: CentaurHauls
# CPU Family: VIA Nehemiah Model 9, Stepping 8
# CPU Speed: 1000 MHz

I can't even find a ECS G320 laptop but there are references to it on the net. So i would suspect that ei used ECS as a subcontractor to build them laptop computers. I also think to get them to fit a price range they had to leave off some things, one of which was a second memory slot. This is logical to me since the laptop is using the VIA c-3 processor and motherboard which are not really up to normal standards for laptops. So you can probable use the 512 stick of if you can find one maybe a 1 gig stick of memory. Maybe sell the old memory on Ebay or something to get some of your money back.
