If any1 can help me out please go slow because I am a linux newbie.

I have downloaded all kinds of linux distros looking for the right one(fedora core 5, ubuntu, Slackware 11.0, Slax, and openSuse)
After checking out the different functions of the software, I decided to go with openSuse.

Now to my question,
I have been searching around the internet on how to install these files for a few hours. I'm trying to install packages:
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746-pkg1.run
lg3d--1-0-0-linux-i686-0612190933.tar.gz
cod2-lnxded-1.3-06232006.tar.bz2
wine-0.9.27-i486-S11.0.tgz

Now i've installed some packages before for linux, but that was a while ago, if anyone has a webpage they could hook me up with that be great too. thumbsup.gif

Second Question:
Sound problem with Asus P4P800-E mobo
I've done quite a bit of searching for this problem at least 10 hours now. I've tried to correct the error using every distro listed above, but apparently i'm not doing something right. The cd has a bunch of install info towards using linux which i've run a million times. Every time I get more confused because i always get an error.

I've looked on alsa-project.org for this problem, but haven't figured it out.....if they'res a tool or if someone has ever done this before, help would be greatly apprecitated.

Thanks for any help biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Now i have heard that Cedega will let you play COD2 on a linux system. Cedega will cost you $5 a month with a minimum of 3 months service, but you get the package that way to where you can play the game.

Thanks a million for those links,, Now i've got my sound going and I'm getting ready to finish up installing my nvidia info.

But i've also noticed with some linux distros whenever I install them and then come back into windows the lan connection says "Network cable unplugged". What causes this?

Because with openSuse, I have not been able to get my windows lan connection going again. I know the connection works because i can get on the internet in openSuse, but whenever i come back to windows it doesn't work anymore. I've tried resetting the routers, lan connection(enable:disable), cables, static ips and still no luck.

Also SRX660, I would like to personally thank you for helping me. Every time I encounter a problem you seem to be able to help me out. thumbsup.gif
