I have a standard Cable modem that is connected to a network for two laptops in the house. To connect to XBL would I have to buy the Wireless Networking Adapter for the 360?

By "connected to a network" do you mean connected to a router? Most wireless routers also include the standard ethernet ports so you could connect your x box using that but if you have the cash getting the wireless card would be the way to go.

If the laptop is on wireless you can connect the Xbox via Ethernet cable into the Laptop and then bridge the connections between the ethernet and the wireless.

theres a more sufficent way to do this, by doing ICS.(Internet Connection Sharing)

Its alot better then bridging the connections,most times you bridge the connect you will only be able to do 1 thing,either be online on the laptop or xbl. Also you will get IP Conflicts, to fix this change your ROuters Lan Ip address.

haha you might aswell bridge it to be honest i use my laptop and Xbox at the same time no problems. Oh and btw geeks to go is a free help website and its got members all over the world

I have a mac computer and i'm picking up wireless internet on my mac and connect my xbox360 to my mac if picks up a connection but it won't let me connect to xbox live. I run the test it says wired then failed on ip address . HOw can I make this work please help =( And what does Brigde the connection mean?

Right you are connecting your Xbox 360 to your mac's Ethernet port... and your mac is connecting to the internet via you airport (wifi) card?

If this is the case you need to...

This is assuming you are using Mac OS X 10.4... Other versions are slightly different.

Go to the apple (top left of your screen) > system preferences > Network
Click Built in Ethernet then Configure.
If you can not edit anything you need to click the padlock in the bottom left corner of the window and enter your password.

On the TCP/IP tab you need to manually set your Ethernet card an IP address.
In the configure IPv4 drop down select manually.
In IP address enter an IP... This IP HAS TO BE DIFFERENT to the IP of your airport card...
For example
my airport IP: 192.168.1.64
My ethernet port IP: 10.10.10.7
They need to be on different subnets so ensure the addresses are completely different.
In the subnet mask enter 255.255.255.0
Now apply these settings.

On your xbox go to the networking settings
Configure the IP address manually.
This IP MUST HAVE the same first 3 parts to the IP of your Ethernet port IP.
My Ethernet port IP: 10.10.10.7
My Xbox IP: 10.10.10.6

Set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0
set the default gateway to the same IP as you Ethernet port.

Now go back to the network settings of your Xbox and go to the DNS part. You need to find out your DNS IP's Please read you router manual on how to do this as all routers are different.
Once you have discovered the DNS IP's enter them to the Xbox and save the settings.

Finaly on the mac go back to system preferences and go to sharing and click the internet tab.
Ensure that in the Share Connection From: box contains airport and that in the To Computers using box tick the ethernet port.

This "SHOULD" work... Although i am writing this without a Xbox 360 infront of me.
