Here's a random topic... I am just wondering what everyone has a favorite computer manufacturer. I honestly stick with HP... no they aren't the best, but I use HP, because they're heavily into entertainment, and their computers have exceptional performance. What does everyone else think?

I like Toshiba and Sony. You pay, but you get a good product. Sony has good products, but their support isn't so hot, which I don't approve of. Toshiba a good support, and a good machine, you just pay for it.

As far as Dell, I hate their support, but my desktop is still serving me well, apart from a few things.

Gateway has made much improvement over the past nine seven years, and I'm happy with my new system, but not so much with the old Gateway.

I'm less than impressed with Compaq. Nothing good there. HP is almost the same, but I have to admit that prices are decent, and they work well. Just don't call support smile.gif

Lenovo is good, (the home IBM) they have the best rated support, and well rated machines. Prices are just under decent.

I hate Macs tongue.gif

That's all I have to say for now laughing.gif

Thats crazy, you've had a good bit of computers, how many do you currently own? I've owned around 6 total in my lifetime. HP computers come preloaded with a bunch of crap, so when I bought mine I had to remove a lot of useless junk, but now my HP computer runs excellent. Also, the LightScribe feature is great smile.gif.

Well, they're not all mine, but I've helped pick out and have used 6 for the family, and a few for friends as well.

A couple of those six I mentioned have died since laughing.gif

Yea, as soon as I get get a line of credit established (within the next 12 months, I'll be 18 in July). I plan on customizing me a computer from CyberPowerPC. Preferably an Intel Core 2 Duo, with 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM. With around a 300+ GB HD, with at least a 256MB ATi video card. Not sure what else though, but its what I plan on doing within 12 months.

Best computer (laptop) ive had so far was the Toshiba there support is fantastic and there support website easy to use.
Sony products are also good however if your formatting someone’s machine. Try getting the drivers for it.
Not so tec friendly.
As with most of the shop based pcs ive bought they all come bundled with Norton and other various process eating programs which I have to spend time uninstalling. I don’t know if that’s the standard for all pc manufactures
I always build custom desktop machines now, and a must have for me is an Asus mobo.
Ps I still have a Toshiba satellite pro working and I think that’s 6 years old now.

ASUS mobos are good, so what do you mean, just so you don't get an ASUS mobo?

This may sound stupid, but I thought Sun Microsystems just did Java, and anything related to Java? They make computers?

Google is your friend.

Sun Microsystems makes high-end systems for servers, but they also make high end desktops. Although they can run Windows XP 32 and 64 bit edition, you're not going to find them in the average user's home running as a personal computer.

Well, I mean I use Google, probably more then a hundred times a day, but I never knew they made high-end desktops. I knew about the systems though. Thanks for the information though, Sari.

Sun make great workstations(ive only seen unix based ones though) great PCs.

Asus mobos are rubbish they have trashed there rep with me and a few other staff members here after a spate of AMD motherboards that performed great but didn't work half the time and they didnt have a good track record of AMD boards before that either, ill not buy one for a very long time it was a total nightmare christmas 2005 when people got them over the holidays and we got tonnes of people with them just not working sometimes after two RMAs.

Lmao he is right. One year about 3 models of their boards had major problems that stirred me and him away for good. We had to help out in forums and all were the same mobo models from asus and all had same problems. Usually DOA.

Yeah I will say that Asus is good WHEN they infact WORK. They have a below average DOA failure rate. Dead on Arrival.
