Cheapest way to do it is to buy a TV capture card, shove it in the computer, tune it into your video, plug it all in, press Record on the software, Play on the video, voila.

That is exactly what we needed to know, to capture video you need a video capture card. Your E-Machines does not have one. You can buy either a TV tuner card that will capture video and also allow you to watch tv on your computer, or you can get just a video capture card that will capture video from a camcorder or VCR. You can get either from anywhere around 20 dollars to several hundred.

Thank you very much! One more thing...if ya happen to know if the cord would be sold with the card? Cause there has to be a way to hook the VCR up the the computer, right? And if it doesn't come with the card...then what are they called so i know what to ask for, and how much more could that cost? The tuner would be neat but now i just need to get things from old tapes to my computer! I really appreciate the help even tho they are probably stupid questions!

It is my pleasure to help, as they always say the only stupid question is one you don't ask! As far as the cables I am pretty sure that most of the cards come with a cable to hook up to VCR.
