Hey guys,

I've been working on getting this issue resolved for the past week or so and have had no such luck.
Here's the situation:

I was dual booting Linux[Ubuntu] and XP[Home Edition] on my Toshiba Satellite Laptop.
I removed the Linux partition, as I no longer use Linux and it was utilizing hard drive space -- everything was fine until I rebooted the laptop.
It booted up and gave me "GRUB error 17".
I grabbed my Ubuntu CD and booted in to it from the CD, checked out the partition manager and everything looked fine.
I resized my XP partition and rebooted the PC.
Now, it is giving me "GRUB error 22".

I put in a burn copy of XP, and set it to boot from CD -- didn't load.
I put in my Ubuntu CD, and it loaded fine.

Finally, I did some searching and found this:

I surfed around GTG and found a recovery application to use to do the fixmbr stuff, but when I burnt it to a disc and put it in, it processed for about 5 minutes and finally came back with:

The file aic78u2.sys is corrupted.
Press any key to continue.

I don't know where exactly on GTG I found the file, but it's rc.iso

I'm kind of stranded here... I'm not sure where to go.
Anyone have any ideas?

rc.iso is a recovery console iso file you burn to a CD. Heres a website you should read on fixing the MBR on your laptop.

Hey SRX660,

I checked out that link -- unfortunately, I do not have a valid Windows XP cd and my laptop for some reason or another will not detect the one I am burning.
The rc.iso is giving me the error saying the file is corrupt -- is that a file on the disc, or a file on my laptop?

Okay, so Mozilla wasn't posting, it was just hanging on the load for 5 minutes and crashing -- decided to try it in IE and this is what I see.

Using the rc.iso please don't just burn it a CD as a file, you must burn it as an image. Using Nero for example, under the Recorder menu, choose 'Burn image' then navigate to the .iso, then it will be bootable.

Since you have booted into recovery console in the cdrom drive when you boot from the image you burned, you will need to change to the "C" or main windows partition and then do a fixmbr there.

the commands you will be using is the bootcfg, fixboot, or the fixmbr commands so read up on using them.

Personally i wonder if you have tried changing your boot.ini file to where it simply just boots to windows.

Nah, I had the image burnt correctly and was able to boot from the CD in to the RC.
Unfortunately, every time I did this, I got the .sys file was corrupt [as mentioned in my original post].

Now, my laptop will not turn on.

Okay, for some reason or another my laptop battery detached itself.
The laptop is now turning on.

Any ideas?
