Hello, I'm planning on building my first computer from parts very soon, and I'm looking for guidance on the equipment I'm getting =]
I'm planning to make this a Gaming PC that would be able to run current and future games without having to upgrade for a while. So far its sitting at aroung 1,500 on newegg, but I'm willing to spend more if worth it.

800 watts is overkill. you don't need that much and never will. Also, I'm not a fan of ABS Tagan. Look for a 500W on newegg.com instead.

also, why are you getting an AMD fan for an Intel processor? ... your processor is socket lga 775 and your fan is amd socket 754.

I was curious if that heatsink would fit in the case I'm getting, it seems fairly large..
But are those good replacements?

And is it worth paying extra for the 1066 RAM?

Hi Fyrex, welcome to Geeks to Go!

If you like, you can try this for a power supply instead.

I would go for this processor, it has a higher FSB which is better for gaming, this will last you a few years no problems, as software (including games) does not even fully utilize two cores yet, let alone four.
You won't need an extra fan as it will come with one in the box. If you intend on overclocking, then you might consider something like this with this fan on it.

This RAM is much cheaper, has a good rebate, and is still excellent quality - I don't think you would notice a performance difference between the two at all.

If you can afford it, I recommend upgrading to the 640MB version graphics card.

EDIT: Okay, just noticed your next post. Rosewill is not a very good quality PSU, try sticking with something like what I've suggested. Good brands include Antec, Silverstone, Thermaltake, OCZ, and a few others...

That CPU heatsink is also a good choice I have heard...

For RAM, I dare say you wouldn't really notice a huge difference between the two, if you went for 800MHz RAM then you could go for lower latencies, something like this is good.

So will the motherboard come with a cooler for the processor? Sorry, I'm a little confused.

The fan will come in the box with the processor.

I'm not too sure which would be better, 3GB @ 800MHz or 2GB @ 1066MHz. I would probably say 3GB of 800MHz should well and truly sufficient, but make sure you buy them in matched sets - 2x1GB and 2x512MB.

2GB of ddr2 at 1066mhz would be better if you are planning on overclocking. (Best overclocking mobo in the world, btw, I LOVE it!) If you aren't going to overclock, then get a cheaper mobo (it's really overkill if your aren't going to be overclocking), and get 4GB of ddr2 800mhz. It's honestly probably $30 more than 3GB. The CPU will come with a stock HSF, though the 2nd aftermarket one you picked out is much better, especially if you are overclocking. One last thing, is that I'm going to have to second ruthandtroy's opinion that you go for the 8800 GTS 640mb. The extra memory will definitely make the card more future-proof. Or, even better, is buying a cheaper card like a 8600GT, and saving up for a 9800, which should be coming out in November. I've read that the 9800s will have almost twice the performance of the 8800s. Oh, and I'm going to also have to agree with ruthandtroy on not getting a Rosewill, unless you want to blow up your rig. In addition to the brands he named, Hiper, Xion, and PC Power and Cooling are also some nice ones.

There's no point in buying 4GB of RAM unless you use (or will upgrade very soon) 64-bit operating system. 32-bit systems will not recognise any more than about 3.25GB of RAM, so it will just be sitting there unused.

You need Vista to run DX10, XP will not run future games, this was one of the key statements you made in your first post. There's no point in buying a high-end DX10 card if you aren't going to use DX10. Vista Home Premium would be the way to go.
