OS: Windows XP

My computer randomly freezes during windows xp and even during before start up. I have scanned for viruses and spyware, defrag hard drive, checked for errors, cleaned registry, dled updated drivers and windows updates that didn't work. Then i reinstalled windows xp, still it freezes. I thought it would be the power supply so i bought a new thermaltake power supply 430 watt, still didn't work. Checked my motherboard temperatures it says: MB Temp - 39c/75f, CPU Temp - 39c/102f. But what i noticed is some of the things in the bios settings i cannot edit it. Like the:

Advanced Chipset Features

CPU FREQUENCY MULTIPLE - 7.0x/15.0x
CPU INTERFACE - Optimal
RESULTING FREQUENCY- Auto

These are the ones that have an X mark on them:

X Memory timings - Optimal
X SDRAM Active Precharge Delay - 6
X SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay - 3
X SDRAM RAS Precharge Delay - 3
X SDRAM CAS Latency - 2.5T
X CPU Vcore - 1.650 V

Power Management Setup

X Time (hh:mm:ss) of Alarm 2:0:0

PnP/PCI Configurations

X PCI IRQ Resources Exclusion

Advanced Bios Settings

X Typematic Rate (Chars/Sec) - 6
X Typematic Delay (Msec) -250

Also couple of months ago i flashed my bios settings, updated it.

I use Pheonix - AwardBIOS CMOS Setup Utility

My Specs:

ASUS A7N8X-X MB
Athlon Xp 2400 Processor
Ultra PC3200 1024 MB RAM
Thermaltake PSU 430 Watt
256mb Geforce 6600 AGP

What could be the problem? I've tried everything.. Please help helpsmilie.gif . My pc has been stuck in my head these few days and i want it to be fixed. Thank you thumbsup.gif

I think this could be a problem with your RAM. Start by running memtest on your machine.

Let me know how it goes.

Do you have any parts from another computer such as memory that you can swap out? How old is the computer?

Inspect your motherboard closely for any signs of damage. When motherboards go a lot of times the capacitors bulge or leak.

If you don't see any physical damage to the board I would try some different sticks of RAM in computer.

The more specific you are the better that myself and other people can help you. Did you get it two days ago from today or from the orginal post. I notice in your first post you said you had 1gb pc3200 RAM. Does this mean you now have 2gb or you bought the only RAM in your system two days prior to your post?

Thank you for the detailed explination. Is this the RAM that was always in the computer? Is this the RAM you just bought?
