Hi there!

Here is my ie7 logfile after attempting to install:

1.412: 2007/09/15 12:05:22.384 (local)

13.029: The configuration registry key could not be written.
13.059: Internet Explorer 7 installation did not complete.
13.059: Update.exe extended error code = 0x3f5

I have tried using the Install Troubleshooter from MicroSoft, which states to edit the keys (shown underlined) but when I try to access them in REGEDIT, I keep getting an "error while opening key" message. When I right click on the key, the message states that I don't have permission to view the current permissions but I can make permission changes. I then try to add Administrators to allow full control and read permission, click apply, then I get an unable to save permission changes error.

IE has stopped working completely since the install so I'm using Firefox as my browser.

If anyone could offer some advice on my next steps, I'd appreciate your help!

I remember I had this problem before.

Although this isn't recommended to most people, but I still do it. Just don't blame me for corrupting your pc =)

Your next step--I think you can try editing the keys under safe-mode as the administrator. I did that and I remembered that it worked lookaround.gif

lightbulb.gif If that doesn't fix it then try uninstalling and removing everything related to Internet Explorer 7 including files, folders, directories, temporary internet files, your 'prefetch' folder' and even under REGEDIT, reboot if you have to. Make sure your firewall is not blocking the installation and try to install again. Good luck man.
