I recently bought a Lenovo X61 tablet PC. It has an SXGA+ screen (12.1 inches) and it runs Vista Business 32-bit. I have installed all the necessary software on the original installation. I did remove Diskeeper and the trial version of Norton Internet Security which came preinstalled. I partitioned my hard disk with Paragon Partition Manager and have been using the machine as-is since. I have noticed that even after installing the latest graphics driver from intel's website for my version of Vista the video output looks very amateurish and disappointing. When I play a movie the sound and video of the movie will be in sync with each other for a minute or so and then the video starts to lag behind. This is very annoying and I have not been able to figure out why this is happening. I have installed the Vista Codec Pack. Could it be the codecs? Which codec pack works the best with Vista Business 32-bit? My tablet pc has the Intel 965 Mobile Express Chip graphics card. Another issue is the boot-up time. If I start counting right from the beginning to the time everything settles down on the desktop and it's ready for use, it takes about 6-7 minutes which is just too long and inconvenient. It becomes a real pain when I have to restart the machine. Originally, without any software installation, the boot time was 1-2 minutes so I expected it to increase to 3-4 minutes after all the installation but 6-7 minutes is just too much. I was also wondering if I could disable windows calendar to pop up at the start-up. I am attaching the HijackThis log. I also wanted to mention that my CPU score was only 28 compared to other similar CPUs on PCPitsop which means the performance of my CPU is also seriously bottlenecked. Any help with these issues is greatly appreciated. Thanks. P.S.: I couldn't attach the HijackThis log file so I am pasting the log here itself. This is the wrong forum for HJT logs....
Symantec is still on your computer. Look at this link to totally uninstall it: http://basconotw.mvps.org/SymRem.htm You will need an active antivirus program. AVG is free: http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php You probably don't need all the Lenovo and ThinkPad applications running at startup. See what you need and set the rest to manuel. I use (free) K-Lite Codec Pack on my Vista Business computer: http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/ |

Jacee,
Thanks for your response and very good suggestions with all the links. I apologize for posting my HijackThis log here. I assumed I had to post the HijackThis log in order for anyone to analyze if there are things I should keep and things I should get rid of. I am not doubting your suggestions but I am just a little bit paranoid in using AVG instead of Norton Internet Security. With Norton Internet Security I have the antivirus, spyware and a firewall but with AVG I will just have an antivirus. I will try out setting thinkvantage stuff to manual and install K-lite codec (although I had installed it earlier and then removed) and post here again with the results. Any suggestions on the low CPU score from PcPitstop? Thanks. Keith. |

Thanks once again Jacee.
I posted a score of 28 off the top of my head for my CPU but it was actually my hard disk score. You are right, I should have posted the link to my PCPitstop score. Well, here it is. By the way, my CPU score was 8972, the lowest among all the machines it was compared with so it is a little bit concerning, especially when you have spent so much to get a powerful machine. I know that the CPU score could be low depending on the applications I have installed. I am glad to post this that I have resolved my issue of delayed video by uninstalling the vista codecs and installing the K-lite free codec package you suggested. I also set one of Thinkpad's automatically loading utilities to manual. I use the autorotate, active protection, etc. on my tablet so I have kept them to load automatically. |

You can use all those programs together and, yes...you will have to update manually. Paid versions will update themselves.
I update all my programs manually, even Windows Update. |

That's what I thought that I will have to update them manually. I noticed you are an admin on PcPitstop. I have posted the link to my CPU score on PcPitstop in my earlier post. Could you please take a look at that and give some suggestions? As per my understanding, my low score is mostly because of the background services my machine is running on it. I think so because yesterday I shut down a few services and the video score and the cup score both improved.

Your link doesn't take me to your score. This tells you how to post the link correctly:

I have a new problem now: a constantly running fan and a noisy hard disk. I have had my tablet for just 3 months and this is the case. I have tried searching the thinkpad forums, tabletpcreview forums but the only solution that people have resorted to is installing a third-party applications called "TpFanControl". I am very skeptical about installing any third-party application to monitor/control my fan and I just want to find out why I am running into these problems suddenly without messing anything in my BIOS. Any ideas? Thanks.
