I'm thinking it must be pretty pathetic if you have to write zeros to everywhere on the drive before it will work. |

Hmm, that's weird. First time I hear of such a thing. Anyway, I always buy my hard drives from the local computer store. They're not the cheapest, of course, but when you come slamming the hard drive into their table, they'll swap it right away without making a mess. On the other hand, if I buy it through Office Depot (not sure if you have that in the US...) or such, it would take YEARS to replace. Buying it on the internet is the best option, but then you have to drive to a distant corner of the country to get it replaced. I rather pay $25 more
