I recently purchased some genealogy CDs . When I put them in my PC the CD opens and the 1st file (Index) is readable but when I attempt to open the rest of the info files I get the following message.

"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the

Can anyone explain what is happening and how , if, I can rectify this so that the CDs are useable?

Thanks a lot in anticipation

Microsoft has a article on this.

I think your error matches this error perfectly.

Is this a geneology program or is it just data files?
Geneology programs use "gedcom", and AFT for their programs. Are these export/import files?
Can you use explorer to see what they are?
