I recently decided to upgrade from an E6600 to a Q6600. For the heck of it, I also decided to get a p38 board as well. So, I got a Gigabyte board. It was DOA, so I decided to go SLI and got n ASUS P5n32-E SLI 680i board.

I have 4 drives:
a WD 250GB, which houses the OS, a WD 320 GB that has data/music/pics/docs/etc, and 2 Samsung 500gb that have a couple of HD movie rips on them (one is pretty much empty).

The board posts, but I can't access the OS. I'd like to avoid losing the other data I have on the 250gb boot drive. Will this work:
  1. take out the boot drive/250
  2. do a fresh install onto one of the Samsung 500gb
  3. set the 500gb as the boot drive in BIOS
  4. plug the 250 back in & transfer all the data to the other 500GB
  5. unplug the data 500GB
  6. unplug in the boot 250 and do a clean install on that,
  7. plug all of the drives back in, boot off the 250, and wipe the Samsung housing the OS.

Will that save the data I have on the WD 250 GB now?
Thanks,
JB

Do a Windows Repair on it. Under XP you can't change the board and expect it to work.
There's a sticky topic in the XP/2000 forum on doing a Windows Repair from the XP CD.
