Ok, i have gotten hold of a new 300gb hard drive that i would like to use as an additional drive for my Laptop. I dont know if this is even possible as i received the hard drive for free. This explains the reason for my lack of knowledge about the particular drive. Ok, its a Maxtor ATA hdd. I am not sure of its exact specifications. If you could prompt me to find relavent information, it would help a lot. I would like to install it on my laptop, its an NEC laptop, about a year old. I use XP. Can anyone give me a hand with this? I dont even know if what i would like to do is possible. Thanks in advance. Ben |

Probably best to get a drive enclosure with USB or Firewire, if you have Firewire. A laptop will only hold one hdd and it will be a 2.5", not a 3.5".

Hmm i was hoping that something like that would be possible, thanks a lot.
A few questions: How much would something like that cost and would i need to alter any settings or would it just be plug and play? Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated. Ben |

$100 to whatever you want to spend. It all depends on the capacity you want.
Yes an external USB hard drive is plug and play. James |

Sorry to seem thick but i only want the drive enclosure. I already have the drive. I only wanted to know how much the enclosure would cost. Is the $100 for the enclosure?
EDIT: http://www.amazon.co.uk/EXTERNAL-HARD-DISK...8298089-0853407 is this the type of thing i need. I think i gave a 3.5" HDD (it says 3.5 series). This post has been edited by Bslforever: Feb 9 2008, 04:29 PM |

Is this hard drive IDE or SATA? No an enclosure alone will be much cheaper.
