Hi there,

I have just put in another 512mb of RAM into my computer, taking it to 1 gig to meet the recommended requirements for Windows Vista.

I have done nothing more than putting the RAM into my motherboard and turning my PC back on. Is there anything else I must do in order to 'unlock' the full features of this new stick of RAM? (MORE SPEED! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif)

When I look at my computers properties, it says that I have 1024mb of RAM... but I can't really tell any difference in performance (it might just be me)

Thanks,

Bobbobagan

Provided your system has registered the additional RAM (ie it can see it and reports the correct amount) there's nothing else you need to do. As 1GB RAM is really the minimum requirement for Vista realistically speaking, you won't notice much difference compared to 512MB. In fact I'm surprised you managed to get Vista to run at all on only 512MB (unless you have the 'Basic' version). Vista's RAM usage is far higher than XP's so you really need to give it a RAM 'injection' of at least 2GB to notice a performance boost compared to the amount it had before. The speed issue (or lack of it) is one of the main reasons why many disappointed Vista buyers have taken the drastic step of overwriting it with a copy of XP, even though that entails hunting around for XP drivers for the internal hardware.
