Hello,
I am interested in building a moderate 32-bit gaming system that I can dual boot RedHat and Vista Home Premium and surf the Web for under US$500 (is this price unrealistically low?). This price excludes monitor, mouse and keyboard of course.

My main priority for this system is to beable to dual boot the latest Redhat and Vista without any performance lags.
As for gaming, Id like to beable to play games like Company of Heroes which has the following system requirements:

• 2.0 Ghz Intel Pentium iv or similar (3.0 Ghz is recommended)
• DirectX 9.0c video and sound cards
• 256MB NVIDIA GeForce6800 or better
• 1GB RAM is recommended (I prefer 2GB)

Any guidance as to which parts I can buy will be greatly appreciated.

I have just built something similar. I started with a Tiger kit that had a dualcore 2.2 cpu, XFX 680i 7020 Mb, 160G Hatachi sata HD, 2 gigs of PC5400 memory, 500 watt Ultra PS( cheap, i know) and a cheap case for $199. I then installed everything into a E-machines case i had laying around and swapped the dual core for a Q6600 quad core CPU( $235), then added a zerotherm cpu cooler( $35)and a ebay Vista premium OS( $57), and a Pioneer DVD-RW($35). I am finishing up right now, and installing my software programs as i type this.

The more i think of this i should have just bought a Core2 Duo e4600 for $160 instead of the quad core. Oh Well, its done now. If i would have picked the core 2 cpu this computer would have cost me $490 + shipping + tax( tiger direct is based out of florida which means i have to pay tax). A good Video card would put it $100-200 higher. I sold the new tiger case for $25 already.
