An enthusiast is pretty much the same as a geek, according to definitions 1 and 2, but the enthusiast has one real advantage: it's not really compulsory for him to have much of a clue what he's talking about. He simply needs to be enthusiastic. If he isn't too smart, why, he can always overclock his IQ. I'm just kidding. I like geeks and I like enthusiasts and I like overclockers. I even like gamers. Gamers help the ordinary joe to buy cheaper faster computers, because gamers (like racing car drivers) push the limits, and that gets into marketing, and the next thing you know, you can own a full terriblebyteload of a hard drive to do what you used to do with a mediocrebyte. Anyway, it's been 20 years since I paid $5,000 for my first system, which featured a 20 MB hard drive. That's MB, not GB, you young fellahs. No worries. I was the only guy I knew to have a hard drive at all. Even at the office we were using two 5 1/4" floppies. I took a lot of flack though. "A hard drive?!? That is totally overkill! You'll never justify a hard drive!!!" Yeah, well. |

Hi you are obviously old enough to remember the old Winchester drives - 'cos I know I am, I used to use them on a DEC system ahh glory days. My old machine used to fly on 64Kb of memory. Anyways welcome to our world and enjoy
