> SESSION5_INITIALIZATION_FAILED > *** STOP: 0x00000071 (0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000) On rebooting, the startup menu allowing Safe Mode shows. Safe Mode will NOT work. After awhile, it stalls, then just reboots the computer without a BSOD. If I try booting windows normally, again the BSOD. Starting windows with last known good configuration also does NOT work. Help would be greatly appriciated. bcji |

Did you happen to install Zone Alarm Pro on the computer lately? It has caused this error on other computers. This is also caused by some updates from microsoft.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887359/ The suggestion is to replace the hard drive's copy of Ntoskrnl.exe with the one from the XP CD. While this article addresses Win2000, the same principle, same fix may be tried for XP. Here are references for Recovery Console in Windows XP: Description of the Windows XP Recovery Console - Article ID 314058 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058 HOW TO: Install and Use the Recovery Console for Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/directory/kb/307654 To exit the Recovery Console, use the EXIT command. Heres a article on using the recovery console. http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...s/wxprcons.html I really don't see any other way to fix your problem. I personally gave up when after a recovery i did not have access to the programs installed on the computer. So what i did was start all over with a clean install of XP. Much easier on the headaches, but you then have to go thru the modify routine to get the OS like you want it again, and that can take weeks. SRX660 |

I did not insntall Zone Alarm, i regretably installed a Windows Vista skin, for my XP system..it installed fine, but didn't look all that good, so i uninstalled it. I am positive that it changed some of my system files unfortunatly.
I feel that simply wiping my pc, like you said will result in alot less headahces, i would do this but for the fact that i have some very important data that i have not backed up (school boy error i know!) on my HDD. I need to some way access, or copy my HDD to save this data but my pc won't boot up. What do you suggest? please help. bcji. edit : I thought about creating another partition (i don't know exactly how, but i know its possible by downloading something from the net and using an iso burner to get it onto a bootable cd) and then installing XP on that partition, so that i can acess my HDD data and copy it to an external HDD. would this work? link to a dl of a bootable partition programme? anybody got any other ideas? thanks in advance, bcji.
