Is there a simple, simple, simple software pkg I can buy that will allow me to transfer about 10 G of stuff from the eMachine's HD to the Gateway? Did I mention it has to be simple? Both machines have USB ports. Also, I understand that I will not lose any email cuz the Outlook Express contents are kept on a server?? But i will have to somehow rename my Gateway with my current email name? I also understand I can print my address book. How do i preserve my Favorite websites? Other than copying the URLs into a notebook and then putting them all on the Gateway? I will have to contact spybot, adaware etc to download their stuff on the Gateway, right? Is there anything i am forgetting, no matter how trivial, self evident or simple? Thank you CK Yr Obt Srvnt |

If you're on a network, that is if you have a router or gateway installed you can just use FTP to transfer your files from one machine to another. A USB connected transfer cable would cost about the same as a router and be usable only for that one type of transfer. You can find a very good FTP server and client here, free for home use;
http://www.ftpshell.com After you've configured and started the server and set it up for public access just put the server machine's local IP into the clients address window. You can also use the Windows files and settings transfer wizard. |
