If anyone can help, my computer is redirecting me to random sites when clicking on links. Also, my computer is very slow, when on or not on the internet. When open or closing applications it is very slow and sometimes applications close by slowly erasing it self from the top. I am limited in my knowledge to correct this type stuff. I am sure it is some type of malware or adware.

I have tried to open the Malware Removal forum on this site under the security section several times and it closes my web browser. I do not know how to run hijack this or I would have posted the report.

Additionally, my PC is currently running 42 processes. I am certain some of these processes are not needed.

Any help to correct these problems would be very helpful.

Lets open your hosts file and see whats going on.
  • Open My Computer
  • Copy the code in the codebox
    CODE
    %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\
  • Click on the address bar in your My Computer and Paste
  • Then hit enter. You should see a few files.
  • Right click the file named "hosts" and open it with notepad.
  • Press "CTRL + A" to select everything. Right click and hit "copy". then reply here and hit "CTRL + V"

Regards,
Olrik

Thanks. I don't know if this will help. It looks like a sample description.

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

The Reason I wanted to know is because the Hosts file will redirect you to pages.
A bit of false hope of fixing it easy. Since you cannot access the malware forums (the browser crashes) I'll ask a staff member to jump into this topic instead.
Just be patient and a malware staff will jump in to help you.

Olrik

Hello,
It sounds like you are infected with some malware.
Malware should only be addressed in the malware forum, by the experts there.
I suggest you go to the Malware Forum and run all the steps located in the START HERE. These self-help tools will help you clean up 70% of problems on your own. If you are still having problems after doing the steps, then please post a HiJackThis Log in THAT forum. If you are unable to run and/or post a HJT log, then post that in your initial post in the topic you create in that forum.

If you are still having problems after being given a clean bill of health from the malware expert, then please return to THIS thread and we will pursue other options to help you solve your current problem(s).
I guess I should have read the whole post!
