One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) has announced that it's XO version will offer the option to dual boot into Windows or Linux, when previously it was just Linux.
In my opinion, I thought it was great that developing third world countries would be introduced to open-source first since it would really encourage creativity. I can see where this is going, though. First Linux, then Linux AND Windows, and after enough time goes by, it will be just Windows. As if Microsoft didn't have their fingers in enough pies as it is. They gotta take open source down another notch. I also read in the article that the initial launch of the OLPC was not as successful as expected. Maybe they are panicking and doing this to drive up business. I have conflicting opinions about this. On the one hand, Windows is restricting open source to wide number of people So, what do you think? Good or bad? Here's the article if you wanna give it a read: $100 Laptop embraces Windows XP -------------------- "There are three ways to do things in life. The right way, the wrong way, and the 'Max Power' way."
"Isn't that just the wrong way?" "Yes, but FASTER!" AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 333 FSB Abit NF7-S v2.0 350W Enermax PSU (26A @+12V) eVGA 7800GS 256MB AGP8X 2 Maxtor ATA133 (40GB and 160GB) 1024 MB (2x512) PC3200 Dual Channel Kingston Value Ram R.I.P. NF7-S v1.0 You served me well... *sniff* |

According to the article, the countries involved requested Windows be installed before accepting them:
CODE The move was prompted by countries which demanded the operating system before placing an order. I hate to see Micro$oft get involved, too, but that's the power of having a world-wide OS with plenty of software written for it. Ron -------------------- |
