We need some help in getting rid of the about:blank hijacker. It only happens occasionally but our computer is running slower than usual.

Thank you!

Welcome to GTG.

What spyware related issue are you having in particular? Nothing jumping out in the log here.....

We can try disabling a bunch of startup programs to see if it helps. Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you checked the last one:

Do you have this set to be on your desktop? -> http://bushclock.lose.com/timer.shtml

1. Download combofix at http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe or http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe Save it to your Desktop before you run it.
2. Double-click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not click on combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

You can probably fix these two entries in HijackThis also:

O24 - Desktop Component 0: (no name) - http://www.merriam-webster.com/images/mwol_hdr_home_red.gif
O24 - Desktop Component 2: (no name) - http://bushclock.lose.com/timer.shtml

Do you have McAfee Antivirus installed? If so, you might want to uninstall this antivirus and delete its folder:

C:\Program Files\EAV Antivirus Suite

What problems are you still having now?

The only thing that I see which might still be causing some slowdown is McAfee. It has too many services running there.

Good job. Your log is clean.

To help prevent future spyware infections, read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If none, go to Start->Run, copy/paste in combofix /u and hit OK to remove it. You should be set to go.

I've run McAfee on my computers for about 10+ years and it doesn't seem to slow my laptop down. Maybe the ol' desktop is getting old and needs to be upgraded rolleyes1.gif

Anyway, thanks again for your help.
