OS: windows xp

When i boot it up it gets to where desktop should be loading and gives me the "userinit.exe apllication failed" error and just my wallpaper is there with no icons. I can use crtl alt dlt and task manager to get to my desktop but then im hit with "rundll32.exe failed to intialize." I've tried every sort of scan there is imaginable and still have no luck. I dont have a windows cd, so i can just repair either. Someone PLEASE tell me what to do to fix this, its driving me crazy.
