This sounds like you may have other problems you need to solve first. Years ago i did a recovery install and ended up in the same situation. My problem was that even tho i installed new program links in the start menu the programs still did not work. I took the easist route of wiping the drive and reinstalling XP back on the computer as a fresh install. Luckily i had already backed up the computer only a few days before.
You can add a folder that has a shortcut to a program to the start menu by going thru windows explorer. This is explained by this microsoft article. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/s.../startmenu.mspx What it does not explain is you must add the folders to the user that you want. Microsoft makes a mistake on the website by using the admin user. I hope it works for you. Most of the time i find other problems in the computer's that stop the programs from working. SRX660 |
