I got my AMD X2 6000+ CPU up to 3.90 and it seemed stable. I did this by dropping the multi by one to 14 and cranking up the FSB. I undid it all because I was scared what I might be doing to the GPU. I noticed after I overclocked it this way I was getting better FPS in 3dMarks06. It seemed to be more than what I expected by just raising CPU by 400mhz. So my question is... By raising the FSB my memory speed increased and my CPU speed increased. Does it also jack up the processor speed on the graphics card? I have an 8800GT and an 8600GTS on the board, and the bios has an option to turn down the PCIE. So if I crank up the FSB do I need to turn down the PCIE so they do not fry? Both cards are already factory OCed. Is there a program out there that will display the frequency of the graphics processor? I am not worried about my RAM because its Reaper 1066 and I have it set down to 800 so I know my RAM has headroom. Please advise. |

No, the FSB is not directly related to the GPU clocks. The reason you are seeing much higher scores on 3DMark06 is for two reasons. One, you are overclocking your CPU, thus giving you better scores in the CPU tests in 3DMark06. Two, you are reducing the bottleneck on your GPU by overclocking your CPU. As your CPU gets faster, it is able to send instructions to the GPU more quickly.
Hope that answers your question. If you still want to see your GPU clocks, you can do this with NVIDIA's nTune or Guru3D.com's RivaTuner. |

I appreciate your reply. So, when I raise my FSB my Video card is not getting any extra strain that I need to account is what I understand now. And sorry for the typo. I did not get the 6000+ to 3.9 I meant 3.39
