[size="6"]n running a Belarc analysis of my Aptiva desktop with W98 (and a cable internet connection), I see two items shown under Windows 98: WPD 811630 is checked but WPD 31239 is not. Rather WPD 31229 is shown with an ominous red X and a notation “Reinstall!” When I click for “Details” I get a MS Knowledge Base page that tells me “The item I requested is not currently available.” (I guess because W98 is no longer supported.)

Several questions:
1 What are these two “items”, anyway?
2 Is it even <possible> to reinstall WPD31239?
3. Should I consider doing so?

My system is old and often mushy and slow in switching between URLs but it still works well and I am reluctant to make any big, changes or updates. Still, I welcome any suggestions. Thanks.

I only find two items with WPD for Windows, one is Windows Portable Devices and the other is Windows Printer Driver. Do you have a printer attached and have you used Windows drivers for it? The only other thing I see with .wpd is the word perfect document format, which doesn't seem to be related to your problem (?).
