OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3

I formatted my computer today because it was uncureably slow, and reinstalled Windows XP Service Pack 3. I didn't change speakers, sound cards, video cards - nothing. But now no sound comes out of the speakers, and every time I restart the computer I get the "New Hardware Wizard" prompting me to install a video controller (VGA compatible) and a multimedia audio controller.
As of now, I can't get my speakers to play even system sounds, and the device manager shows a question mark / exclamation mark under "other devices" -- multimedia audio controller and video controller. I have tried uninstalling these devices and restarting, but to no avail. I know my sound card / video card are integrated and not third party, so what is left for me to do? I never had sound or video issues before formatting - was that just a stupid idea??

Thanks for any help you can give,
Dan

If it's a name brand machine go to the maker's website for drivers and downloads and put your model information in and get the drivers for it. If it's custom made you will need to go to the individual device maker's sites to get the drivers. You can install Everest Home Edition to find your hardware information.
