Internet Connection Problem |

Here's the problem: My family's main computer is hooked up to Frontier broadband through a Siemens Speedstream 6520 router. All of the lights on the front (power, ethernet, wireless, DSL, internet) are on. I can connect to the internet from my computer, which uses the wireless network connection, but I can't connect from the family computer. In Network Connections, there are two connections, a Local Area Network and a 1394 Connection, but there isn't an icon for an internet connection. I am not using a proxy server or anything, and I am really stumped about what to do. Can anyone help? |

Hello MattJordan952,
On the family computer is it hard-wired to the router. If so then "Local Area" will be your connection. Was the connection previously working on this system? |

Yes, it was working yesterday, then it suddenly cut out on both computers. It didn't work when I left for work this morning, but when I got home I could connect to the internet using my computer, but not the family computer. And yes, the family computer is hard wired using an ethernet cable.

Click Start> Run> type cmd in the open box. At the command prompt type ipconfig /release. This should release all adapters. Then type ipconfig /renew.
Also what anti-virus / firewall are you running? |

Ok, I typed in the commands, and it still doesn't work. I'm not sure if this means anything, but after I typed in ipconfig /renew, it said Connection-Specific DNS Suffix: domain.invalid
I am using Norton Antivirus and Webroot Spysweeper. |

Go to Network Connections > right-click Local Area Network> choose Properties> in the list select TCP/IP then click on properties
What are the settings? |

Have you tried turning off the firewall to make sure that it is not interfering with the connection?
Open the cmd box >type ipconfig /all Make a note of the default gateway type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where X is the gateway that was given) |

At the command prompt type netsh winsock reset.
It will ask you to restart the system. |

As this router was provided by ISP not sure if you will be able to login and check the settings. You could try setting a static ip on the system
Open network connections > right click the Local Area choose Properties> select TCP/IP and click properties Set the ip address to 192.168.254.210 Set subnet to 255.255.255.0 Set gateway to 192.168.254.254 Apply the settings. You could try to run system restore to a date when it was working. |
