Hello everyone!

Question. When I start my pc, there are certain programs in the quicklauch toolbar (bottom right) that I never use, and would rather not have running in the backround. How do I go about "telling" these programs not to run on startup? MSN messenger is one of them, Extended Resource Monitor is another, and soundMAX control panel is a 3rd. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The Quick Launch bar is the area of the Taskbar directly beside the Start button. It contains shortcuts to programs and files you use frequently. You can add them by dragging and dropping a shortcut to it or remove them by right clicking and selecting delete … they do NOT load at startup.


To stop programs that load at startup you need to … first check your startup folder, anything in that folder loads at startup. Next go to Start – Run and type MSCONFIG, click OK. Select the Startup tab, everything that is selected loads at system start. I’ve seen systems that had dozens of programs loading when you only really need your AntiVirus/Firewall software.


BTW, if you are not sure about something that loads, Google it and then decide if you really need it.

Thanks for the tip. I guess quicklaunch was the wrong thing then. I'm talking about on the toolbar, at the bottom right of the screen, where all the programs that are currently running are seen. I'll try that out regardless.

For MSN Messenger, go to Tools > Options > General. Uncheck the box next to Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows.
