Hi there and sorry for the delay - may I have a fresh look at your system
Download OTScanit to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named OTScanIt on your desktop.
Please attach the log in your next post. To attach a file, do the following:

Hi there your log appears clean smc.exe is part of sygate firewall and is a known problem for earlier versions. You are currently at 5.5 and 5.6 is now available HERE please update to this version and let me know if that fixes it

Thank you for looking at my logs and helping me out. I still have a few questions if you can answer them for me. Do you know any reason that the Crss.exe would cause my computer to run at near 100% CPU usage as well? I had done a bit of research via google and saw some results saying that the user account that I was logged into at the time (which happens to be the only one on the computer) could have become corrupted at some point and is causing it to run at such a high end.
Also, I will update my sygate but I have a question about that as well. Should I just download 5.6 and install that, or should I uninstall 5.5 and then install 5.6? What steps should I take in order not to have compatibility problems or anything causing any other issues. Thanks again for your time. |

Firstly can you confirm as to whether the process is crss.exe or csrss.exe
I would recommend uninstalling the older version first The compatibility problems should be ironed out with that version Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:

Thank you again. I will get started on the two things up there (The Java and Sygate). I did want to let you know that it is csrss.exe that is in my task manager now. Currently, my laptop is running fine and not at the normal 99% it usually does and since both crss and csrss.exe both exist and they both sound familiar I can't remember if I ever saw crss.exe in my task manager or not. I will try and keep an eye on it and the next time it starts running high double checking to see which of the two it is.

QUOTE crss and csrss.exe both exist If you do have both then I have missed a trojan Let me know how the new firewall works and I will then remove my tools |

Well, I've updated sygate and java and everything seems to be running quite well now. No large spikes in CPU usage or anything. Thanks again, and now I know where to come if I ever have computer problems again that I can't fix.

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean
A good workman allways cleans up after himself so...Download and run this small programme and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself XP Now to get you off to a good start we will clean your restore points so that all the bad stuff is gone for good. Then if you need to restore at some stage you will be clean. There are several ways to reset your restore points, but this is my method:
You now have a clean restore point, to get rid of the bad ones:
VISTA To manually create a new Restore Point
Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free program:
It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ? Keep safe |
