I have a white colored screen for my desktop background from this virus, spyware, or trojan that is effecting my computer. I also have a box that says Warning Spyware Detected On Your Computer. The top of the box is a copper color. The bottom of the box says Win32/Adware.Virtumonde detected on your computer and also Win32/PrivacyRemover.M64. I need help with removing this spyware, virus, trojan or whatever it is that is effecting my computer.

Attached below is a HJT log.

Hi Greg86,

Please do the following:

ComboFix

Please visit below webpage for instructions for downloading and running ComboFix

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

This includes installing the Windows XP Recovery Console in case you have not installed it yet.

For more information on the Windows XP Recovery Console read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058.

Once you install the Recovery Console, when you reboot your computer, you'll see the option for the Recovery Console now as well. DO NOT select Recovery Console as we don't need it. By default, your main OS is selected there. The screen stays for 2 seconds and then it proceeds to load Windows. That is normal.

Post the log from ComboFix (located in C:\combofix.txt) when you've accomplished that, along with a new HijackThis log.

BHowett,

I tried to download Combofix and I followed the directions on the bleepingcomputer.com website and when I clicked on the icon for Combofix.exe on my desktop it said Combofix.exe was not a valid Win32 application. I also cant access bleepingcomputer.com or the geekstogo.com website for some reason. I dont know if it has to do with the virus or whatever is on my computer. I can access other websites but some of the other websites that I can access aren't functioning properly. I also have a popup for AntivirusXP 2008 and it wants me to install it. I dont want to install it because I think the virus or spyware is causing this popup window. I dont want anything else to complicate the cleanup of my computer than I already have. Any suggestions on another step or something else to do to resolve the virus, spyware problem I am having with my computer.

Thanks.

I’m guessing since you’re able to reply you have access to a clean computer? Try downloading ComboFix to a thumb drive or burning it to a CD. Then save it to the desktop of the infected computer and see if you can run it thumbsup.gif .

Hi Greg86,

Lets do the following...

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

If you run HijackThis in safe mode it doesn’t show all the processes or start ups because they are not running in safe mode. Can you rescan in normal mode with HijackThis and give me a new log please.

Needed in your next reply:
Malwarebytes Log
Fresh HijackThis log

And please advise me on how things are running at this point thumbsup.gif

Attached is a new HJT log and an MBAM log. The box that said my computer was infected that was on my desktop is now gone. Things seem like they are working correctly. I just want to make sure everything dealing with this virus, spyware is off of my computer.

Thanks for your help.
