On most computers Esc brings up the boot menu,

If F10 does let you recover you Operating System back to the original condition when you bought the computer, it is either missing or has been corrupted.

If you computer will boot to the desktop you can always go into the Accessories > System Tools > System Restore, to take the computer back to before you had a problem.

If you cannot do this and Also cannot get to recovery the Esc boot menu will have "LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION" which you can get to by using the arrow keys to highlight it and then hit the enter key.

If this does NOT work you probably have a virus and need to see what the malware forum can do for you.

If you still cannot seem to get things running right, i would then think of buying or borrowing a XP CD and wiping the drive, then reinstalling XP brand new, and finding the drivers you need for your hardware.
