Business computer, no surfing, no gaming, but my adult son started coaching little league and rec'd emails form parents, thats when problems started about 2 weeks ago.

Computer is deadly slow , if I can click on the icon screen before it dissapears.

I tried Control Panel, restore points etc. to no avail.

Also tried to run a HiJack This log. after telling to fix checked, got a message screen "Unexpected Error Occured, Error #52 (Bad File Name or Number in Sub Get Long Path(?.exe)"

Loaded Stopzilla ran it said: VUNDO.G and DUMARU infected. It did not remove them.

Ran PCDoctor it showed some tracking cookies, Adware.Advertising, and Adware.Component.Toolbar, and a BackDoor.IRC.Flood. Kaspersky?

Downloaded COMBOFIX it failed to function, something about I "can't rename it to combofix1". Later got it to install and it ran, nothing re viruses.

Loaded MBAM, clicked run and it said "set up files are corrupted, please find another set". Then went to Blue Screen.

Went to GeeksToGo and downloaded the MBAM, nothing dramatic.

Ran a speed Test on Saturday, DL Speed 2,563 and UL Speed 416. Ran another one from PCPitstop gave different results.

Today logged on GeeksToGo and ran a Cyberdefender SpyScan results: KaZaA- Type P2P, MarkerscsoreNewsletter in Registry, MSN TrackMonitor in Registry, xupiter in Toolbar, and a couple of tracking cookies.

I aircanned the inside, ran cleanup flush, deleted unneeded Printers, as you can tell at this point I"M DESPERATE.

Please help if you can. I promise to be obedient and do exactly as you say.

HappyDays,

  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Just post the Hijackthis log - don't do anything else with it.

happydays,

I don't see anything obvious in that log, except that Cyberdefender doesn't have a real good reputation - it is listed as rogue anti-spyware, meaning it uses false and deceptive advertising to goad you into purchasing it. I don't think that's your problem, however. Now, are you with Verizon DSL, or is your ISP AT&T Internet Services? I see signs of both in your log, so I'd like to clarify that.

  • First, download OTListIt to your desktop.
  • Once it has finished downloading, please double click on the icon.
  • When the window appears, click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so.
    • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTListt.Txt and Extras.Txt
    • Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post it with your next reply.
  • You may close these windows when you have posted the contents of the files.

Sari, thanks for the reply.

Regarding the Verizon and Att issue you wondered about. My business comp. (the one with the problems) is ATT.

However, My laptop at home is Verizon AirCard, and I use LogMeIN to log onto the shop computer from the laptop, so perhaps that is where you are seeing the reference to Verizon?

Wow, I'm sorta surprised that there is not something jumping off that Log at you, the way the computer is behaving!

I apologize for so much time between my answers, this is homecoming week and It's hard to get to the computer.

I have printed your instructions off the laptop at home tonight (since my printer and computer are not speaking at the shop),
I will try to post the new log for you around noon tomorrow (fri).

Also, re. the CyberDefender, do you recommend that I remove it now. As you know I downloaded a "few" to say the least, trying to fix the disappearing desktop problem.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Have a great night.

Sari,

I got to thinking about the missing Extras.Txt Notepad, that did not come up on screen ofr me.
So I restarted comp, the desktop came up for a second and there was the Extras.Txt Notepad Icon, I clicked it, before the desktop could disappear.

I an posting the Extras.Txt scan for you now.

I think this may show somethings, that will help you figure out why my Desktop and Taskbar disappear leaving only the blue screen.

Thanks for your help.

happydays,

We had some server issues, and posts were lost. Unfortunately, your OTListt.Txt got lost, although I now have your Extras.txt. I apologize, but I'm going to have to ask you to repost that for me, or re-run OTListIt if you can't find the report.

Good morning Sari,

Yes I see that the OTList has been deleted from this forum posting.

I am away from my shop computer and unfortunately turned it off, so I cannot access it via LogMeIN today (Sun).

I will repost the missing OTList for you Monday morning.

Curious, did you see anything interesting in the Extras.Txt Log?

Have a nice weekend, look forward to talking with you on Monday.

Not Sure What Is Wrong Here...But, Your Server That Goggled Up My First Posting Of

The OTListIT Log....Apparently Has Done It Again, To The Second Posting of The
OTListIt Log Posted Yesterday, Monday Oct 13th.

Can an Administrator please see why this is happening? Thank You.

We don't seem to be getting anywhere. Lots of views on my thread, but no help.
I appreciate Sari answering of course, and I appreciate your help in general for all of those who need this type of help.

You guys and gals offer a great resource.

I will try to post the OTListIt Log again. But because I have no desktop I will need to
post this message, reboot the comp. snag the icon of the deaktop and hope it shows up on screen for me.

Again, thanks for your help.
