Laptop screen problems

Hey, I have a two month old Dell Studio 15 laptop that's having some issues with the display. When I turn on the computer or start using it after the screen has gone idle, the bottom 2/3 of the screen are completely grey, occcasionally showing lines of color. The top 1/3 works fine. After a few minutes (typically, the longer the screen has been off, the longer it takes) it will revert to normal and work perfectly until the next time the screen turns off. Anyone have an idea of what could be causing this - and if I might have to replace the LCD screen?

I'll probably call Dell tech support tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone might have an idea about the problem. It started happening after someone tripped over my backpack (with computer in a case) in a lecture hall, so I'm afraid my warranty won't cover it. Thanks for your help!

Or you could be honest about what happened. Apparently you know what happened, and know what your warranty covers.

If you did not pay any extra money for your warranty when you bought the laptop, you have a one-year Rapid Response contract, which means that if the issue is a manufacturer hardware defect, you can send the laptop into our Houston, TX depot for repairs, and will have the laptop back within 7-10 business days.

You can view your warranty information by entering your service tag here.
