I am running XP Pro with SP2. I currently have 2 users on my computer. The 1st has administrator rights. The 2nd is a limited user. I would like to allow internet access only to the administrator and not to the limited user. Anyone know how I can achieve this? Thank you. |

Yes u can.
This is how i block certain users in retail shops so they don't browse the web: http://www.petri.co.il/block_web_browsing_with_ipsec.htm The process ain't short, but it works like a charm. You can also add other ports later, like 110, 25, etc. 2nd solution, is if you have SP2 via Group policy (yes, even without a domain): http://www.microsoft.com/technet/technetma...cy/default.aspx Check the "Securing Computer Access to the Internet" part. i believe youcan also set the prefences in control panel security but the on ly thin g doing it this way you would have to enter a password to access any sight

Reading throught the first link, I am not seeing anyway for the IPSec to allow/block depending on the user login...maybe I missed it. Does it allow an admin user full access to the internet and a limited user no access? |

Yeah, the computer has 2 users. The 1st is the admin user and the 2nd is a limited user. I want to allow the admin user full access and the limited user no internet access. E-mail is OK. |

Go with the solution #1 i proposed.

OK, I went through the process but with no luck yet. I am having an issue with setting the IPSEC's "Authentication Method". It defaults to "Kerberos V5". The link you gave me skips this step for some reason. Anyhow, the Auth Meth says it only works with computers assigned to a Domain. There are about 3 dozen others I can choose from. I have tried a hand full with none working. When I assign the the policy, I get the message: "Assigned, but the 'IPSEC Services' service is not in a running state." Thus, the policy does not work... any suggestions? |
