hi all,
i am pretty new to this forum but i definitely need help from experts n pros here.
i just build my new machine, and the my computer wont log into BIOS.
There was no smell or any fishy stuff when i turn on the power but as i observe the power on process, my computer shut down in less than a min.

EVERYTIME i try to turn on the power, The CPU fan, MB and Graphic card FANS stop spinnning in less than 1min or maybe 20secs.

I have tried all methods posted by the adminstrator but it still wont get me into my BIOS.

Nothing on the screen with no beeps


1-Make sure the hs (heatsink) is installed properly, tight with thermal paste applied
2-Make sure the cpu fan is connected to the correct header on the motherboard
3-Clear the cmos by unplugging the computer removing the battery then move the clear cmos jumper from pins 1&2 to 2&3 for 10 minutes
4-Replace the battery and move the jumper back to pins 1&2
5-Verify all motherboard jumpers are set correctly
6-Verify all case connections are correct ( case switch ect.)
7-Verify the power supplies 20/24 pin and 4pin 12v are tightly seated to the motherboard

heres my specs. Please HELP!!!

Sapphire PCI express RAadeon X700PRO
500W power supply

Before you go any further and possibly damage something for good stop powering up the machine.

Sometimes a motherboard can short to the computer case. If that happens, then it can display the symptoms you describe.

You have to be careful, but you can power up your motherboard outside the case.

Remove the motherboard from the case.
Remove the power supply from the case.
Install the vid card, and 1 stick of ram, and connect the monitor to the vid card. Be careful not to stress the vid card motherboard connector. Remember there is weight there and no case to support that weight.

Connect up the power supply to the motherboard. If the vid card requires power, connect that too. Make EXTRA sure that all other power supply plugs are nowhere close to anything metal.

Then power up the computer and see what happens.

If you still cannot power up, swap the powersupply and try it again.

but 1 question... how do u actually power on the your computer if your POWER LED and POWER SW from the comptuer CASE is not connected with your MB


Or Shall i PULLL the cables and connect to my MB outside the Case?

Yes, you have to use the wires from the case.

i have just tried another power supply. but my mobo just stop in 5sec....

present stituation

not connected to the CASE

cpu AMD 643000 939
original heat sink
512 ram
sapphire x700pro
500w power (New) [5sec power down]
450w (old ) 5sec power down [same result]

nothing else is attach to the MB..

for the first few 4tries,, i got to admit that i forgot to attact my SPACERS to the Case ..... am i in trouble to burning my mobo??? my 500w power supply still in usable condition i guess....

wat shall i do nexT?

If you didnt attach the spacers to the mobo there is a good chance you have fried it when you powered up the computer, you might be able to get an RMA as long as you dont mention that you forgot to put in the spacers.

You didn't forget the K8 power cable did you?

I guess i will jsut bring all my parts to the computer store for a Full Checkup....

Is there any methods for me to check which hardware is the trouble marker??

My Asus mobo still got the light on and my fan does spins......

But stop atfer 10sec or less....

Depends on how old it is, and if the manufacture issues RMAs. Most do.


Actually, unless you have "spare" parts that you can swap in, it's difficult to tell which one is bad. You can pretty much discount the power supply since you did swap it.

By the way, you did everything you should have done to troubleshoot your problem. But without spare parts, I'm afraid you have only two choices... take it in to a shop, like you mentioned, or start RMA'ing parts back to the manufactures.
