I had two major issues when I installed the game. 1) One was that it would CRASH right after it loaded the splash screen, and you're back to the desktop. Cause: BF2 doesn't like all CDROM/CDRW drives. Especially if you have flashed it to be multiregional. Solution: run a no cd mini-image that imitates your cd copy in a virtual drive. 2) Second problem was that BF2 was only playable for 4 minutes, after which you crash and return back to the desktop or worse, the computer crashes! Cause: This is caused by having an AMD mobo with Dual Channel memory. I don't know why but I replaced my ATI card with an nVidia 6800GT. Since than I have similar lockups with Counterstrike and FarCry. Solution: Set your memory to Single Channel. I'll tell, I have been readying a ton of forums with no one having a fix other than telling people to reinstall and reformat your HD. That is all [bleep]. If you have the above problems try my trick and I promise you, you'll be playing all night long just to catch up on all your mistireous crashes you've been having for days. Oh by the way, I have tried all the version of drivers (omega, nvidia 6x, 7x, all of them). Play hard when you get it fixed! |

And take a 30% performance drop on your system as well.

From what I can tell most the crashes are among nForce users with GFX GPUs. I know that nVidia has added pathways to speed things up a little and my suspicion is that that causes problems elsewhere like AMD's HT. I could be wrong here but by the looks of things, if you experience crashes with games like HL2, CS:S If you have a better way, I'm all ears. Good Luck! |

Its a well know fact that the improvemment is about 30% so says a fair few magazines ive read ill go look something up on the net when i have the time im busy at the mo.
Theres tons of better ways, but there is no one fix its a different problem for everybody. AMDs HT doesnt cause probs with BF2 at least its not officially documented, which if it did would have been noticed when they ran the testing on the game, same thing with dual channel as the test systems will have primarily have been running dual channel and about half at least would be running AMD . Wouldnt it. |

I have the same problem except my Bf2 will run up to an hour then either go back to windows xp, or crash to a blue screen. Happens with both omega and ati's drivers. When I run the game again it usually crashes more quickly. Could this be the video card overheating? I've read they run really hot but you can't compare that to cpu temps, ok. Well how hot is too hot? Should I slap a zalman on that sucker? I've also heard that another gig of ram helps lag problems, maybe it will help us with this one. Maybe our power supplies are shooting dirty volts? I don't have a $100 ps... Venice cores can't run 1T on the AN8 mobo, so I've heard, so I'm already running the mem at 2T. I'm not a oc guru and really don't even grasp all the bios controls for memory and what not so what the [bleep] should I do? Thanks for your help...

It should be running fne i have no bother with it, so get the 5.7 drivers from ati if that doesnt work try the 5.6. Then if still no luck give me some telps use rivetuner to get your vid card temps it should be steady at 45 degrees. Have you tried looking up the blue screen error on the microsoft site.

Well... after installing catalyst 5.8 bf2 seems to work flawlessly now. I updated the bios as well last night and it crashed after that so it must be the new drivers... a godsend. Or, ATI finally got off their asses and made sure that the best cards work with the best game. Yey! Thanks for the thread

I have same probs when playing multiplayer but oddly not single player. My laptops are ultra fast and the XPS is faster than all but the latest desktops but after a few minutes of joining a battle my pc just blackscreens and reboots. This is now annoying . I will remove sp2 and take it from there. All my drivers are up to date and I have patched to ver 2 .

Well My BF2 was crashing to the desktop over and over after a few minutes and was pissing me off, i first tried all the tweaks listed anywhere i could find from google, however, this solution ended up ultimatly fixing my problem! ***Disabled AC97 Integrated Audio from BIOS and Installed a PCI Soundblaster LIVE! card with the newest drivers for XP from creative labs. I have not had one crash since the change! GOOD LUCK guys!!! |

It amazes me how theyve got away with releasing a game with so many bugs . i will never buy any ea games on release again total waste of time. Ive so far experience about 30 lock ups , slow downloads, Slow connections constant crashes to desktop and unauthorized restarts. Done all the usual re install etc etc but none seem to work. Only switching down the sound card performance makes any difference and thats only slightly better.

Well, are you using integrated audio? once i disabled mine and installed the LIVE card it works GREAT!
this game is a HOG, there is no doubt, you need 128mb 5200 + or 9600 ati or better for video, plus a descent sound card (integrated audio SUCKS) |
