no start menu or desktop, help what do i do?

OS: windows xp
when i turn on my computer i dont have a desktop all the shows is the wallpaper and a window open with my documents. there are no icons or start menu. when i press the windows key nothing opens. i cant even right click on the wall paper. what do i do? HELPP upset.gif
