Hello!

My sound just suddenly disappeared while my son was playing a computer game (Rayman 3). Everything is plugged in.

I have Win 98 SE, Turtle Beach Montego II.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi Woman!

Does the sound return after you reboot your computer?

No - no sound at all!

It just disappeared and hasn't turned up again.

Any ideas? Can a sound card just stop functioning - no warning?

Go into the DEVICE MANAGER (right-click MY COMPUTER and click on DEVICE MANAGER tab, and tell me if there are any items listed with yellow exclamation/question marks next to them.

Hello Fenor!

When I right click on MY COMPUTER I don't see DEVICE MANAGER. I do see what is in Swedish EGENSKAPER - I think it's PROPERTIES in English. Under that I do see one thing with a yellow exclamation mark next to it - my firewall driver!

Any ideas?

(And thanks for the time you've been spending trying to solve my problem!)

If I can jump in because Fenor isn't in this forum at this time, Go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager near the bottom of the list is Sound Video and Game controlers - click the + are there any yellow exclamation marks?

Hi, 1069 - and thanks for jumping in for Fenor!

No yellow exclamation marks there.

Anything else I can check?

Thanks!

Download and installEverest Home Edition

Run the programme, click + next to computer then summary

Look on right for multimedia / audio adapter

Look at the manufacturer’s site for the suitable driver for your Operating System

If you are unable to find it, please post the make and model here before you download anything

Please set a system restore point before you install anything

It can happen that the drivers become damaged or corrupt even if they show as working

Re-install the drivers, either from the soundcard CD or the manufacturer's website, which is usually better as you will be able to get the most recently updated drivers

Hi Keith. Great name (my favorite bro's name is Keith).

Thanks for the Everest tip - so handy!

This is what turned up under sound card: Aureal Montego II Sound Card

Went to Turtle Beach's website. The only Aureal I found was the following. It says it's for MSXP, if I'm reading it correctly - I have 98SE - a Dell. I've tried contacting tech support at Dell Sweden but they're having problems just now.

So here's my soundcard - this IS for an XP, isn't it? / Thank you so much for your help! / Amanda

Model
Aureal- based cards
Manufacturer
Turtle Beach Systems
Device Type
Operating Systems
WinXP
File Name
MSXPAureal.cab
File Size
535.5 kb
1 minute 16 seconds @56kbps
5 seconds @broadband
Uploader Notes
Updated driver for all Aureal based sound card (8810,8820,8830) e.g. Montego I/II, in file cabinet format. Extract to a folder and files will be visible

UPDATE: I think I may have found the proper driver. It was cleverly disguised as AU8830. I'm downloading it now.

Oh, my gosh! I'm only half geek! I don't understand most of what the READ ME file is trying to tell me! What happens if I uninstall my Turtle Beach drivers and then install the ones you've given me the links to? How do I back-up my drivers?

(I should never have broken up with Sven the Swedish Computer Geek!)

I would e-mail turtle beach as it will be a straightforward job when the exact card number is established

Well, after several unsuccessful attempts at downloading the drivers from Dell Sweden, I've finally succeeded. The results: nada! Nada peep from speakers.

Anyone have any other suggestions? What do you do when you come home and your 12-year-old says the sound just disappeared while he was playing a game?

Thanks!
