and installed Windows XP SP2 back onto it and now my computer is really loud. It usually is only this loud when booting up or other processes like such. I was wondering if anyone knows why it's this loud and perhaps a way to fix it. Please help!

I'm not sure if this is in the right forum, so if not, mods- please move it to the appropriate one.

umm... sounds like the fans in the back or something. I opened up my case but all that stuff is sort of closed off by a metal box

that is the power supply...it can hurt you, that's why they close it off.

If it is making more noise than before, it is likely not a windows issue, but your power supply malfunctioning.

Is your PC all back together and where it was before...I find that people often freak a little after moving the PC around or opening it, but it is probably not any louder than before

Oh, well it is much louder than before. During normal activity this computer was very silent. Now it is very loud.

Is this an AMD chip?

For some, the chipset driver will reduce the fan speed when the CPU is idling....cannot recall what they call it...Cool and Quiet?

AMD? Uhh... I don't know if I'm thinking of the right thing here, but it's a Pentium 4. If this is not the info you wanted, please tell me how to obtain that info (dxdiag?).

oh, nope. sorry, I was misleading. I had SP2 before reformatting my hard drive as well, but only now after reformatting, has my computer sounded like this during all the time it's turned on.
