hey, thanks for the review kat. everything seems to be running fine now, except that my windows and buttons no longer look like the default windows XP theme. for instance, my Start button looks like a regular grey button that says Start on it. when i right click on my desktop and choose the Appearance tab, the only option under the Windows and Buttons menu is "windows classic." this isn't a huge problem, but it's been kind of bugging me. i'm kind of paranoid that maybe there is a new virus that is doing this? i first noticed it after i booted into safe mode, and then back into normal mode. thanks for any advice!

Right click on desktop, select Properties. Click the Desktop tab, then the Customize Desktop button. Select the Web tab and uncheck everything in there. Apply and OK your way out of there and you should be good.

Let me know if that works. If not, we'll try something else!

Copy the text from inside the code box into Notepad.

Save the file as ThemeFunction.reg on your desktop.

Make sure Save As Type is "all files"

Double click on the ThemeFunction.reg and allow it to merge into your registry.

Then download both of these files:
http://www.kellys-ko...s/Resources.zip
http://www.kellys-ko.....s Classic.zip

Unzip and restore them to C:\WINDOWS\

It should look like this when you are done:
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes
and the Luna and Classic themes should be there.

Reopening this topic because the computer reboots into the classic theme even though the Theme service is running.

1uptheman,

Can you please do this for me:
Click Run > Start > type or copy&paste regedit /e c:\theme.txt "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ThemeManager" >OK

That should create the file c:\theme.txt
Post the content of that file please.

Copy the part in bold below and save it as tmnew.reg

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ThemeManager]
"WCreatedUser"="1"
"LoadedBefore"="1"
"LMVersion"="103"
"ThemeActive"="1"
"DllName"=hex(2):25,53,79,73,74,65,6d,52,6f,6f,74,25,5c,52,65,73,6f,75,72,63,\
65,73,5c,74,68,65,6d,65,73,5c,4c,75,6e,61,5c,4c,75,6e,61,2e,6d,73,73,74,79,\
6c,65,73,00
"LastUserLangID"="1033"
"ColorName"="NormalColor"
"SizeName"="NormalSize"

Doubleclick tmnew.reg and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.
Keep theme.txt as backup. By changing it's name to theme.reg you can use it the same way to get your own settings back.
