i was just looking around, have already consulted to the search engine to find that my first language to learn should be Java? i was just wondering if anyone has read any books and would like to recommend any to a beginner, im currently 17, 18 in Nov. i have too much free time on my hands and was hoping to learn something constructive in that time. Do you think i should learn programming? or is it not really worth it? |

How about The Art of Assembly? All programming languages are just ways to get code to an machine format. Assembly is the most efficient and can produce compact and powerful programs. It teaches memory manipulation at the lowest levels and is good at the mechanics of computer manipulation.
I know people will tell you the benefits of high level languages like C/C++ and Java. but if you want to know the Nitty Gritty of programming my vote is Assembly. |

Runescape and that type of game are generally done in Java. PC games are generally written in C++. Java is fast and relatively easy to learn. If your interested in production without the knowledge of why things are done thats fine. If you want to know why things are done in certain ways and produce compact and efficient code learn C/C++ . If you want to Know the nuts and bolt of making a computer do what you want then Assembly is a good place to be. It is very tedious but the efficiency of the programs are faster and smaller than other languages can produce. it's all in what you want to achieve.
