Hey all, first let me say it is very cool of you all to help people with all these bugs that are clogging the net these days ;) . I do my best to help my friends and fam out when they run into problems but obviously certain issues are over my head.

I run Pest Patrol religiously and make sure my system is clean as this machine is my lifeline and primary work tool. However, after several lock ups today, I ran another scan and it detected AntivirusGold. I had no issues with the wallpaper or pop-ups, just SEVERE lock ups and hang-ups. :tazz:

Read through several tutorials expalining how to remove, from this site, google searches to Pest Patrols site and nothing seems to work. However, the lock ups seem to be relenting a bit. However, what's strange is that upon downloading several new programs, they all seem to be finding something another program won't find, and then they can't remove the problems for me. I attempt to manually remove them from the registry only to have them reappear after re-boot and rescan with each seperate program. ;)

Man, this is alot of crap! Had no idea. Always thought I was on top of this stuff. Just had my tech guy fix a power supply on my computer and checkout my motherboard and bios. He did a few scans and said he was impressed how clean the machine was! ;) What the [bleep] do we know then! :tazz:

Thanks in advance for checking this stuff out....

Welcome IAMBG to Geeks to Go!

It's not as bat as it looks.
Some are found in Pestpatrol's quarantine box, some are found in HijackThis' backup. You can remove them using those programs.

Let start cleaning up.

You are running HijackThis from the Desktop; please create a new folder for it and move the program into the new folder.

Please read these instructions carefully. You may want to print them. Copy the text to a Notepad file and save it to your desktop! We will need the file later.
Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please RIGHT-CLICK here and go to Save As (in Internet Explorer it's "Save Target As") in order to download Metallica’s reg file. Save it to your desktop.
Leave it for now.

***

Download CleanUp!.
If that doesn’t work, use this link.
Double click the file cleanup.

Go to option
Select ‘custom’
Put a check to:* Cookies
* Prefetch
* Temp
* All users.
Press 'cleanup!'

Once it's done, press Close.

Let the system reboot.

***

Please download the Killbox.
Extract the program to your desktop and double-click on its folder, then double-click on Killbox.exe to start the program.
In the killbox program, select the Delete on Reboot option.
Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\Windows\System32\hookdump.exe
C:\Windows\System32\winnook.exe
C:\Windows\desktop.html
C:\Windows\screen.html
C:\WINDOWS\d705k.sys
C:\WINDOWS\sahagent-1002.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\d705k.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dg6dzr1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fiz1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\in10b6s.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kfl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kyf.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\n3tpa1i.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SHAgentNew.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\td01.dll

*Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".
*Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt if you get one.
*If the computer does not reboot by itself, do it manually.

While your computer is restarting, tap the F8 key continually until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

***

Locate "antivirusgold.reg" on your desktop and double-click it. When asked if you want to merge with the registry, click YES. Wait for the "merged successfully" prompt then follow the rest of the instructions below.

***

Delete the entire folder C:\Program Files\AntiVirusGold

In the Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info"

Then boot back to normal, run HijackThis again and post a new log.

Pest Patrol still keeps finding Antivirus Gold for some reason.

Also, I don't think killbox could find the first four items you mentioned. I couldn't figure out why....Just assumed I didn't have them.

Also, the option- Display > Desktop > Customize desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" is gone?!?!?!?!? I thought active desktop may have been turned off, but I get no option for Website under Customize Desktop. It just gives me icon options and the Desktop Cleanup Wizard...

Please disable Pestpatrol, I think it's keeping us from cleaning.

Please do it once more.

After that:

Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
Reboot your machine and post back a new HJT log and the ewido .txt log file you saved by using Add Reply

As for the display tab, never mind.

Ok will do all that stuff again and your next set of instructions, of course.

Pest Patrol, however, is not invoking on boot. I did a manual scan just to see if AntivirusGold was there....

Looks good.

Open HijackThis
Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running.
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot the system.

You can safely remove this folder:
C:\!Submit\
as well as the folder 'backups' on your desktop.

The Virus:Eicar.Mod is detected in a part of pestpatrol. Leave that.

How are things now?

Seems to be somewhat OK, but start up is much more sluggish.

I ran Pest Patrol again, and it still finds AntiVirus Gold. I removed all files from Pest Patrol Quarantine, Norton Quarantine, Ewido Quarantine and the !Submit folder.

Any last suggestions?

Pest patrol finds AVgold in
In Registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\ext\stats\{72267f6a-a6f9-11d0-bc94-00c04fb67863}

scanning spybot again, but I am pretty sure it found them as cookies...

Thought I deleted all cookies...

Thanks for the help. Sorry this one has become such a pain.

I am wondering if perhaps I have an incomplete version of AVgold. Maybe it never got to complete it's installation which could be the reason I don't have similar symptoms as others and that it's such a pain to remove...

I dunno. Just thinking out loud...
